Hi, I’m Liesbeth!

I use research and design to support people, systems, and everything in between.

I’ve worked on projects across healthcare IT, education, and research, often where usability meets complexity. My interests also extend into areas like decentralization (Web3) and critical design, especially when they challenge how we relate to technology.Skuppel is the name I work under. It's where I explore and apply design that supports meaningful, human development.

Skuppel (verb: skuppelen) is a word I made up as a child for brushing tiny seashell off my skin. The logo is a mountain (my last name means "from the mountain), with its top ‘skuppeled’ off. It’s a deliberate metaphor for how I work: peeling things back with care to get to the core.

I’m Liesbeth van den Berg, a (UX) researcher/designer and lecturer based in Amsterdam. I work in IT, usability, and education, with an emphasis on healthcare.I focus on projects that involve complexity: from medical software and research tools to decentralized platforms (Web3) and rethinking how we evaluate design itself. My work blends critical thinking with practical application, and I care deeply about making technology more usable, thoughtful, and fun.Alongside my freelance consulting, I’m pursuing a PhD focused on making usability methods more holistic and human-aware. I’m also on a lifelong mission to chase mountains, mostly physical ones, though the digital kind keep me busy too.
